From Stourbridge, West Midlands, I first picked up a guitar at the age of 16. Then 2 years later moved to the North coast of Cornwall in the Westcountry to be inspired by the incredible surroundings. I began writing influenced by the independent music of the 1980s and 90s. Bands such as The Stone Roses, Oasis, The Verve, Blur, Stereophonics, The Smiths, The Charlatans, Inspiral Carpets, The Wonderstuff, Neds Atomic Dustbin and Pop Will Eat Itself. As well as more hard rock based outfits like Led Zeppelin, Nirvana, Alice in Chains, and Pearl Jam. Other influences also include Rolling Stones, Jimmy Hendrix, Cream, Fleetwood Mac, The Beatles, David Bowie, Pink Floyd, Foo Fighters and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
In this age of cover artists, prefabricated pop bands and instant fame, I still think the answer lies within. Writing music and lyrics is ingrained in our British culture. Portraying a story in music is important, in a time when we are obsessed with digital technology. I'd rather stay in touch with the real world in a lucid way, where the subjects and people are an endless source of inspiration to me. I'm so glad to be here...Justin.
